Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar on May 25 said that “the time has come” to set up a Working Group to analyze the deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic, for the sake of future generations.
After meeting state secretaries and heads of health institutions, Loncar told state public broadcaster RTS that the Working Group would comprise representatives of hospitals and local communities and individuals dealing with statistics.
“We said that once the conditions allowed, we would form a team to look into deaths related to Covid-19. The only reliable way to establish whether the coronavirus was the cause of someone’s death is autopsy, but autopsies were prohibited by the WHO recommendations,” the minister said.
Loncar added that the study would also include the individuals who had died outside hospitals. “We will analyze death certificates to establish whether some of family members of the deceases hat been in contact with the virus,” Loncar specified.
