Ahead of a visit to Kosovo scheduled for June 4, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias talked over the phone with Miroslav Lajcak, the EU's special representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
"We discussed the latest events in the Western Balkans," Dendias tweeted.
A June 4 statement in Kosovo last weekend said that Dendias would meet with Kosovo Foreign Minister Gervala Svarc in Pristina. Greece is one of five EU states that do not recognize Kosovo's independence, however Athens has announced that it will help Kosovo's bid for the liberalization of its visa regime with the EU.
Kosovo and Greece have increased their economic cooperation lately and so a third joint economic forum on energy organized by their foreign ministries was held in April. A statement released by Greece has said that Athens has assured Belgrade that it will not recognize Kosovo's independence and that, according to sources in the Greek foreign ministry, "It's relationship toward Kosovo is not changing, but Kosovo is building up its presence in Greece."
