The state's gift to pensioners in February next year, in the amount of RSD20,000 each, can be explained with that being an election year, and will cost the state EUR288 million, not including interest, a professor of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, Ognjen Radonjic, stated on Aug. 3.
Commenting on the announced aid to pensioners, he told BETA that the trend of aiding the people from 2021 would continue in 2022. "There are 1.69 million pensioners in Serbia and, if each one gets 20,000 dinars, that will cost us 288 million euros, not counting the interest, which all citizens of Serbia will pay for, together with the principal, because of the election year," Radonjic stated.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic promised on Aug. 1 that all pensioners, regardless of whether they had paid the taxes and contributions, would get RSD20,000 each at the end of February or the beginning of March next year.
Radonjic said that the Serbian government's anti-crisis measures during the pandemic were successful in the part regarding the preservation of employment in the formal sector, but that the problem arose from the non-selective distribution of money to commerce and to the population.
