Vuk Cvijic

NIN weekly journalist Vuk Cvijic said on Aug. 5 that he had never been a member of any political organization and that Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin should stop making untrue statements and targeting journalists and instead answer several questions that have to do with the connection between the government and crime groups.

Answering Minister Vulin who said that he was a People"s Party activist, Cvijic told BETA that Vulin had voiced the accusation before the latest edition of NIN came out, in which he talked to People's Party official and attorney Vlada Gajic.

"It is telling that the minister cited already proven false news, which was denied even by the tabloids that published it. I suspect that something similar has happened like several years ago when Minister Vulin reacted to an unpublished article in Nedeljnik, when it was established that communications were intercepted," Cvijic said.

He also said that Minister Vulin was more preoccupied with independent journalists than the struggle against organized crime. Cvijic stressed that it was Vulin's duty to tell the public what the role of Serbian government secretary general Novak Nedic and high ranking Gendarmerie official Nenad Vuckovic in Veljko Belivuk's criminal fan group was.
