Nine people have died of COVID-19 in Serbia in the last 24 hours, while 1,722 new cases have been confirmed, the Serbian Ministry of Health said in a press release on Aug. 29.

A total of 1,119 patients have been hospitalized with the disease, 83 of whom are on ventilators. Since the outbreak of the epidemic in Serbia, 757,617 people have contracted the disease, while the number of fatalities has reached 7,266.

Pediatric Association of Serbia head Georgios Konstantinidis said on Aug. 29 that he had learned that some 4,000 children had been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, and that this meant that less than two percent of children in the 12 to 15 age bracket had been vaccinated.

"Education is necessary to provide people with adequate information based on fact, not on announcements and tabloid commentary," Konstantinidis said.
