Serbian parliament speaker Ivica Dacic said on Sept. 17 that the starting point at the upcoming meetings as part of the dialogue on election conditions mediated by Members of the European Parliament would be a document made by the MEPs, rather than the opposition's subsequent proposals.
In early September, the MEPs unveiled a working document on enhancing the electoral process in Serbia, while a number of opposition parties, unhappy with the document, presented a list of their demands.
Speaking as a guest on public service RTS, Dacic said that the opposition itself had requested that the MEPs put together a document based on which the inter-party dialogue would continue.
"The opposition puts too much emphasis on the media, while elections are a complex process," said Dacic, adding that the opposition parties thought that "everything has been resolved" and that all they needed to do was show up on RTS "for five or 10 minutes."
Dacic also said there was no deadline for reaching an agreement in the dialogue, but rather that "some things" would be done regardless of whether there was an agreement or not.
The talks in the dialogue on election conditions with the MEPs' mediation will resume on Sept. 17 and 18.
