Over the past 24 hours 51 people died of the coronavirus in Serbia bringing the total number of fatalities since the outbreak of the epidemic to 8,481, an Oct. 5 statement said.
According to the Serbian Institute for Public Health, samples from 23,093 persons were tested revealing 7,190 new cases of the disease. A total of 6,519 people have been hospitalized while 269 people are on ventilators. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 5,751,180 people in Serbia have been tested for the disease while 974,179 people cases have been registered.
On Oct. 5, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said after a session of the Crisis Headquarters that the current measures for curbing the epidemic would stay in effect, despite the opinion of medical professionals who recommend stricter measures, adding that vaccination "is the only sustainable" response to the pandemic.
