Having laid a wreath at the Alley of Fallen Patriots (1941-1945), Minister of Defense Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Oct. 20, the Belgrade Liberation Day, that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the Government of Serbia and the state as a whole had been fighting for independent Serbia.

The minister underlined that the patriots fighting in the World War II wanted to see a free Serbia, "independent and autonomous in making its own decisions, accountable only to its people," the cabinet said in a release.

"The same battle is fought today, by President Vucic, the Government of Serbia and the entire state, with all their might, building roads, bridges, schools and hospitals, fighting invisible enemies, like Covid-19, and also fighting for a more powerful army to keep Serbia independent and free forever, accountable only to its people, and no one else," Stefanovic said.

Congratulating Belgraders and all citizens of Serbia the Day of Belgrade Liberation, the minister said he didn't want the Serbs to "fight for freedom using arms again, but rather knowledge, stronger economy and state."
