56 people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 11,007.

Samples of 18,016 people were tested in that period and 3,600 were positive, according to the Nov. 17 figures of the Institute for Public Health. There are 6,160 covid patients currently being treated in hospitals, 254 of them on ventilators. 6,621,039 people have been tested since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, and the presence of the virus has been confirmed in 1,222,023 people.

Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar stated on Nov. 17 that antibody tests a person would take at a private laboratory after having recovered from covid-19 were "irrelevant" and that only the results of the Laboratory for Medical Biochemistry of the Institute for the Application of Nuclear Energy (INEP) were recognized.

"No private laboratory has the license for testing people who recover from covid for antibodies because there have been abuses," Loncar told reporters in the U.N. building in Belgrade. He added that private laboratories had not fulfilled the conditions of the Health Ministry and that only INEP fulfilled them at present.
