State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek said on Jan. 7 that "eight, nine thousand newly infected is a frightening figure" but that luckily the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients was not big because at this time "the virus in the Omicron form" causes milder symptoms. He added that no one could predict what would happen in the coming period.
"The healthcare system is under great pressure, but our problem has moved from COVID hospitals to COVID testing sites and COVID diagnostics, to laboratories, X-ray machines," Djerlek told Pink TV.
"What the experiences so far are, but again I have to point out that we do not know what lies ahead in the next month or two, at the moment Omicron looks like some kind of cold," said Djerlek and added that panic should not be spread.
He underscored that the authorities had done everything to combat the coronavirus but, "as boring as I may be, I have to ask citizens again to finally understand" that vaccination was the only way out.
