A former National Bank of Serbia governor, Dejan Soskic, might be an opposition candidate to run for Serbian presidency or Belgrade mayorship, the Research and Publishing Center “Demostat” reported on Jan. 10.

According to Demostat, the Serbian opposition is considering Soskic’s candidacy because “the renowned economist has good poll ratings, and has never been labeled corrupt.”

Soskic ran the Serbian central bank from 2010 to 2012, and is a regular professor at the Belgrade School of Economics.

Demostat goes on to say that a former vice-president of the People’s Party, Zdravko Ponos, is another potential candidate who’s still in the game, along with a retired professor, Vladeta Jankovic, although Jankovic had said earlier that “the circumstances under which he might accept to run are hardly feasible.”
