Referendum (BETAPHOTO/SASA DJORDJEVIC/EV)

Having processed 98.79 percent of polling stations, the Serbian Electoral Commission reported that amendments to the Constitution of Serbia with a strong impact on the national judiciary had  been supported by 59.71 percent of people voting in a referendum on Jan. 16, while 39.26 percent voted against the constitutional change.

Together with a turnout of 30.65 percent reported by the national authority, these would be conclusive results valid at 11.30 a.m. on Jan. 17, and no major change is expected.

No objections have been reported either, and the turnout has been considered satisfactory, and cannot be compared to an election turnout, “as the two are completely different things.” A deadline to announce final results is Jan. 21, at 8 p.m., unless the vote is repeated in individual vote centers.
