61 people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 13,748, it was announced on the covid19.rs web-site on Feb. 2.

36,874 people took the test in that period, 17,851 of whom were positive for the virus. There are 3,962 patients currently being treated in hospitals, 166 of them on ventilators. Since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, 8,208,435 people have been tested for the disease and 1,714,863 were infected.

Virologist Milanko Sekler stated on Feb. 2 that it was not necessary to test children and teachers once a week since the number of new infections is huge, and that "all resources should be turned to triage" and help the people in medical distress in that way.

"What is the point of large number diagnostics if we don't know how those people got infected? It makes absolutely no sense anymore," Sekler told the Politika daily, adding that those with the serious form of illness should be found, isolated, tested and hospitalized.
