Dr Predrag Kon (BETAPHOTO/Serbian Government/Slobodan Miljevic)

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon stated on Feb. 22 that Serbia could not compare with the countries that are abolishing the measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19, where almost 90 percent of the population are vaccinated.

Kon said in an interview to the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that, if 80 percent of the population were vaccinated, Serbia would also be abolishing the measures, such as COVID passes for hospitality establishments after 8:00 p.m.. He stated that the percentage of vaccinated adults in Serbia was “somewhere around 59 percent,” which is around 50 percent of the total population.

“We are below five percent (of vaccinated) in the 12-18 age group, and we cannot compare with countries which have more than 60 percent,” Kon stated. He added that “there is a misconception about omicron stealth and omicron” not being so dangerous, and that “omicron can be deadly for elderly non-vaccinated people with chronic illnesses.”
