Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Volodyimyr Tolkach on Aug. 2 said that Russia’s war against Ukraine “is genocide to destroy Ukrainian people.”

Speaking at a meeting of the displaced from Ukraine and reporters on premises of Endzio Hub, which the Ukrainian Embassy organized in cooperation with the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), Ambassador Tolkach said that “what is happening in Ukraine today is horror created by (president Vladimir) Putin’s Russia which has been intentionally killing Ukrainians.”

“Putin has said the Ukraine as a state is a mistake of history and that he will correct it and thereby commit genocide against Ukraine’s nationals, who do not include only Ukrainians, but also Russians and other nationals,” Tolkach said, adding that since Moscow’s invasion on Ukraine, five million people had left the country, while 12 million had been internally displaced.

A representative of the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration Jelena Surlan said that around 2,800 persons from Ukraine had temporary residence at private addresses and that another three reception centers had been prepared for Ukrainian nationals.
