Process passed on Sept. 12 the conclusions urging a quicker EU enlargement process to include the Western Balkans, asking also that Bosnia and Herzegovina should be granted the status of a candidate country, and the entire region a visa-free regime by the end of 2022.
In the first of the six conclusions EU enlargement was described as “the most direct contribution to keeping peace and stability in the region, which is more than ever before a geopolitical issue.”
Asking for a faster EU integration process in line with the common conditions for membership, the participants also appealed that Bosnia and Herzegovina be declared a candidate and the Western Balkans granted a visa-free regime by the end of the year.
They also reconfirmed their commitment to dialogue, as “the only way to overcome differences and open issues in the region,” urging the Union to support the Western Balkans in alleviating the consequences of the economic and energy crisis.
The Brdo-Brioni Summit in Brdo, near Kranj, was attended by Albanian President Bajram Begaj, the three members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, Milorad Dodik and Sefik Dzaferovic, the presidents of Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia, Milo Djukanovic, Vjosa Osmani, Stevo Pendarovski and Aleksandar Vucic, respectively. The summit was hosted by the presidents of Slovenia and Croatia, Borut Pahor and Zoran Milanovic.
