Journalism awards Dragan Janjic for the works focusing on media literacy were handed at the Dorcol Platz in Belgrade in the evening on Sept. 29. BETA News Agency Director Radomir Diklic said the awards were presented in honor of Dragan Janjic, one of the founders of BETA and the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), who had died prematurely.
Diklic also said that Janjic’s entire career in journalism could be described as “the fight for clear and truthful information.” According to Diklic, Janjic was fighting for truth at the service of democracy. The laureate of the Dragan Janjic Award is Ana Mirkovic for her work titled “Correlation between the quotient of digital and media literacy and skills which are the basis of a modern civil society.”
Other laureates are students Dragana Jovanovic and Kristina Sustic for their work titled “How do collocutors and institutions treat journalism students?” The two awards were handed within New Literacy program, implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Propulsion. The winner of the special award presented by BETA is teacher Vladislav Stojcic for the work titled “A step ahead of Artificial Intelligence (AI).”
This was the inaugural edition of the awards presented for best academic and research works themed “Media Literacy,” which have been established by BETA News Agency and NUNS in memory of one their founders.
