Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret said in Belgrade, on Nov. 25, that all of the agreements reached during the Belgrade-Pristina talks had to be implemented and recommended that the two parties immediately concentrate on the negotiations to reach a final agreement on normalization.
At a joint press conference with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, after a meeting in Belgrade attended by all of the EU ambassadors to Serbia, Giaufret said that High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell would soon invite Belgrade and Pristina to sit down at the negotiating table again.
“The parties must invest their maximum energy toward reaching a legally binding agreement to normalize their relations. The EU is determined to work with Pristina and Belgrade to make this happen,” the EU ambassador said. Giaufret explained that an agreement on replacing car license plates last week “prevented existing tensions from escalating,” adding that the EU appreciated “the constructive and responsible role” of Serbia and the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic.
Brnabic said that at the meeting with Giaufret and the ambassadors of EU member states to Serbia, she was assured that the agreements reached so far had to be implemented before any new agreement with Pristina, first of all the 2013 Brussels agreement on the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
