U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill said in Nis on Dec. 15 that the Serbian government had the right to approach KFOR with a request for Serbian security forces to return to Kosovo and Metohija, but that this question remained political and therefore required a political solution.
Hills stressed that he saw no possible military solution. "What we have to do is calm the situation down, create peace and stability in this area and give the people who live there clear expectations as to how their lives will look like in the future. This can be achieved by implementing the Community of Serb Municipalities," Hill said.
The ambassador added that U.S. special envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar had made it clear during a Dec. 14 visit to Belgrade that this was something that would happen, so that people would get a clear picture of how they would live in the future in the territory that they have inhabited for centuries.
The U.S. ambassador toured the Mara center for offering social protection services in Nis which received 250 square meters of new space with the help of the EUCOM Program and USD442,000 in donations and that 250 square meters had been revamped. The Mara center is visited by 80 children and adults with intellectual disabilities each day.
