On Dec. 22, Assistant Director of the state Statistics Bureau Petar Korovic announced that, according to the preliminary results of this year’s census, Serbia has a population of just under 6.7 million, which is about 495,000 less than in 2011.

Speaking to Prva TV, Korovic stated that the census recorded 2.5 million households and 3.6 million residences in the country.

“All regions have seen a 10-percent decline in population except Belgrade – which was expected – [and] which has displayed a 1.6 increase,” Korovic said.

The official announced that the final results of the census, which was conducted in October, will be published in installments, starting next spring and ending in June 2024.
