Czech President Milos Zeman arrived in Serbia in the afternoon of Jan. 29, at the end of his second term, for a farewell visit during which he and his Serbian counterpart will preside over an opening ceremony for a Czech House in Belgrade.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met Zeman at the airport.
"It is a special honor to welcome the Czech president, one of today's last great statesmen and a sincere friend to Serbia, to Belgrade. Welcome, honored president!" read the caption for a photo of the welcome meeting posted on the Instagram profile buducnostsrbijeav.
Official talks and the opening of the Czech House are slated for Jan. 30, when the two presidents will also sign a joint declaration on developing cultural cooperation and establishing the Czech House in Belgrade as the seat of the Czech Center and headquarters of Czech agencies serving the needs of the Czech minority in Serbia, it was announced in Prague.
Ahead of his visit to Belgrade, Zeman announced that he intended to discuss Serbia's relationship with Russia in light of the Russian aggression against Ukraine with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. "Of course. We'll discuss the Russian aggression against Ukraine and Serbia's role as a neutral country in that conflict," Zeman told the Czech privately-owned Frekvence 1 radio and Czech commercial CNN Prima News TV stations.
