Bosnia Did Join Sanctions Against Russia, Says Bosniac Presidency Member

A member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic, stated during the May 24 meeting with the non-resident Ukrainian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vasil Kirilic, that Bosnia and Herzegovina had joined the international sanctions against Russia.

The office of the Bosniac member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced that, during the meeting with Kirilic, he “strongly condemned Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and declared support to the people of the sovereign and independent Ukraine and to President Volodimir Zelensky.” Becirovic stated that Bosnia had supported the Resolution of the U.N. General Assembly that condemned Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and joined the Declaration of the EU high representative on harmonization with the restrictive measures pertaining to actions that undermine or jeopardize the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The announcement further reads that Bosnia and Herzegovina had voted for the suspension of Russia from the Council of Europe (CoE) on Feb. 25, 2022, and supported the decision of the CoE’s Committee of Ministers on Russia’s exclusion from the Council. Bosnia and Herzegovina has joined the sanctions against Russia and supported 22 decisions of the Council of the EU, the statement reads.

The Ukrainian ambassador thanked Becirovic for the continuous support of Ukraine, stressing that the Ukrainians were encouraged by his outspoken support of the fight for the freedom of Ukrainian people, it was stated.
