The co-leader of the opposition Together party, Nebojsa Zelenovic, has said that the organizers of citizens’ protests titled “Serbia against Violence” have already discussed the possibility of taking a step forward by blocking bypasses and border crossings. The sections of highways running through Belgrade and Novi Sad have already been blocked during the protests.
“Whether we will do that will depend on the readiness of the organizers and the number of protesters, but it is definitely a way of increasing pressure on the regime to meet our demands,” Zelenovic told the July 4 issue of Belgrade daily Nova.
He also said that there were 50 opposition MPs in the Serbian Parliament, who, if organized well, could assume responsibility.
Zelenovic also said that blockades of border crossings would not be “anything new,” recalling that the border crossing between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina near the town of Loznica had been blocked during protests against multinational company Rio Tinto’s plans to mine lithium in the area.
