A total of 149 MPs voted for her, 40 were against and five abstained from voting out of the 194 MPs present.

Djukic Dejanovic was immediately sworn in, thereby officially taking up her duties.

Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, 72, is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine and specializes in psychiatry. She served seven terms in the republic's and federal parliaments, was a minister several times and was previously a special aide to the prime minister.

Djukic Dejanovic is replacing her party colleague Branko Ruzic in the spot. Ruzic resigned in May, several days after a mass shooting in Belgrade's Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School.
