According to Rasim Ljajic, the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia and a member of the ruling coalition, it is clear that the international community’s policy toward Kosovo has utterly failed considering that 24 years after the war there is more talk about the possibility of a new conflict than of a resolution to Serb-Albanian tensions in the territory.
“The negotiations have continually unfolded under the aegis of the international community, so it’s logical that the community bears a good deal of responsibility for this state of affairs. Were the Serbs and Albanians able to reach an agreement on their own, there wouldn’t have been a conflict in the first place,” Ljajic told the Aug. 7 edition of the Politika daily.
In his opinion, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti seems to believe that time is on his side and that he does not need to make any compromises – even though “time is an ally neither to Belgrade nor to Pristina.”
“Amidst the perpetual tensions, the number of Serbs in Kosovo will dwindle, while Kosovo will remain isolated, exempt from all integrations,” the leader of the Social Democrats concluded.
