Dusan Bajatovic, the CEO of Srbijagas, said on Aug. 9 that the increase in natural gas prices in the country will by no means top 10 percent.
Speaking for the RTS public service, Bajatovic insisted that, while the International Monetary Fund demanded that Serbian gas prices go up 10 percent, “if the books show that Srbijagas can withstand a smaller [price increase], it certainly won’t damage its customers.”
According to him, the price hike should take effect on Nov. 1 and its exact amount hinges on two factors: “the purchase prices on the stock market and, possibly, on the amount of money Serbia needs to repay five- and seven-year credit lines. The price increase certainly won’t exceed 10 percent. Its exact amount will be calculated next month,” Bajatovic said.
The CEO further stated that there is currently not enough natural gas available for Europe, but that there have been no recent attempts to take advantage of this shortage, unlike last year when prices soared to USD3,700.
While the stock market prices of this fuel are in constant flux, they are now far better than in the summer of 2022, although there was a recent case when prices went up 20 percent in a single day.
