The Together party said on Aug. 10 that Belgrade had landed the EXPO side event under the slogan, Play for Humanity, Play Sports and Play Music, adding that the show was an excuse to burn several billion euros.
"The famous EXPO world exhibit, which dates back to the mid-19th century, is held every five years and will be held in the city of Osaka, Japan in 2025. The price of the entire EXPO 2025 project is USD840 million. The EXPO franchise, which in addition to the famous global exhibit that we mean when we talk about the EXPO, has several other exhibits: the Horticulture EXPO, a specialized EXPO that focuses on modern civilizational challenges and the Milan Triennial of art and creativity," the Together party said in a statement.
The party added that the Serbian authorities were purposely not saying that this was not the World EXPO to mislead the public and sink several billion euros under the EXPO logo into this construction project that will mostly be used by private investors and also provide them with an alibi for bulldozing the Belgrade Fair.
"The Together party attacked this project back in parliamentary committees - because it leads to bankruptcy and because Serbia knows how to put billions of euros to better use, and not on a throwaway national stadium and some fair," the party said.
