People's Movement of Serbia leader Miroslav Aleksic, until recently vice-president of the People's Party, said on Aug. 17 that "the silent majority in Serbia has awakened, citizens who want politicians that they can trust have awakened."

"Simply, every politician has an expiration date and you must sense that. The problem is when you become intoxicated by political power. We do not need power, we need a system and politicians who will sacrifice themselves and be with citizens in all of Serbia. People who will be ready, not to enjoy power, but to sacrifice themselves for the state and general welfare," Aleksic stressed in an interview with Nedeljnik.

Asked about his strategy for the next elections, he replied that, "It is hard to think about a strategy when it is unknown which elections will be held, nor when." "Local and provincial elections will definitely have to be held. It is almost certain that parliamentary elections will be held as well. I would like elections on all levels including presidential and in Belgrade. The government does not have legitimacy in Belgrade," Aleksic said.
