Miroslav Aleksic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
The People’s Movement of Serbia is refusing to take part in the formation of a government that would represent a continuation of the current policy and push the people and the state into further divisions and conflicts, the Movement’s president, Miroslav Aleksic, announced on March 31.
The party reported that Aleksic’s words were "in response to Aleksandar Vucic's inquiry about participation in consultations for selecting a candidate for the prime minister of a new government," and that Aleksic had also submitted to the Serbian president a draft platform on the basis of which a government of people's trust should be formed.
In his response, Aleksic also said that the platform outlined "a concept for a government that could lead the country out of crisis." The opposition politician explained that the proposal was put forward last week by opposition parliamentary parties, considering, as he said, the overall social and political situation in Serbia.
Aleksic underlined in his response that the current ruling majority, as well as Vucic himself, had lost legitimacy in the past period, arguing that "through his actions, Vucic has lost all legitimacy to serve as president of Serbia."
He also added that the institution where discussions on the mentioned concept of the future government could take place was the Parliament of Serbia, which is precisely the institution provided by law to elect a government.
Some of the main tasks of this government, besides fulfilling student demands, would include revising the voter list, changing the management of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), and creating conditions for free media operations.
