Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Sept. 14 that she is not optimistic regarding the continuation of talks between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels, because Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti does not want peace and stability.
“I wish an agreement were reached, because we need peace and stability. But does Kurti want the same? I think he’s shown that he doesn’t. We’ll see. We’re following the talks in Brussels closely,” Brnabic told Pink TV.
Commenting on the opposition and some media recently lambasting President Aleksandar Vucic over a video promoting a bologna sandwich breakfast made of groceries whose price was just reduced, the prime minister called the taunts “the height of stupidity and shamelessness,” then tied them to the dialogue with Pristina.
“I’m not an optimist because we have attempts within the country to weaken the president and government. While the president should be focusing on defending Serbia’s integrity, they’re spewing nonsense about whether or not he ate bologna,” she said, referencing speculation on why the video only portrayed Vucic making and not actually eating the low-cost meal.
“But I think the president has enough focus and emotional fortitude to put that all behind him and defend our interests in the best way possible,” Brnabic concluded and reiterated that she “absolutely” supports holding snap elections before the year is out.
