Osmani Demanding Sanctions on Serbia Over Attack in Northern Kosovo

During her Sept. 26 meeting with U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani expressed her hope that Serbia will face sanctions “for its direct participation in the attack on Kosovo police forces in the north.”

The statement issued by her office says that she and Hovenier “discussed the security situation in the wake of the terrorist attack in the north of the country” – a shootout that claimed the life of officer Afrim Bunjaku and which Osmani believes Serbia is culpable for.

“The president stressed that this terrorist attack and act of aggression by Serbia demands consequences for the Serbian side. She said and is hopeful that, once our allied countries complete their internal procedures to confirm information regarding the latest attack on Kosovo, concrete measures and sanctions against Serbia will be introduced over [Serbia’s] direct participation in the attack, be it as instigator, organizer or facilitator,” the press release concluded.
