In a Sept. 27 interview for the RTS public service, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that extraordinary parliamentary, local Belgrade and provincial elections could possibly take place on Sunday Dec. 17 or, should the opposition prefer it, on Saturday Dec. 23.
Vucic added that the leader of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, Milos Vucevic, has already proposed that the main candidate on the party’s Belgrade ticket be Aleksandar Sapic, the capital’s incumbent mayor.
A snap parliamentary and local Belgrade vote have been among the main demands of the pro-European opposition parties which have been organizing the Serbia Against Violence rallies for the last several months.
