Snap elections, whether they are held in December or next spring, will be the last opportunity for the people of Serbia to prevent a devastating sequence of events that will lead to Serbia enabling Kosovo to become an independent state according to the so-called Franco-German agreement, People's Party leader Vuk Jeremic said on Sept. 29.

"If Serbia agreed to that, then the jeopardizing of the safety of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and their departure from the province in huge numbers, as well as the loss of our greatest shrines, would be just the first painful step, because other territorial issues would be opened after that too," said Jeremic.

He also said that if Belgrade accepted Kosovo's independence, then it could accept anything, including a request for a revision of the Dayton peace agreement.

He underscored that the current state of affairs in Kosovo and Metohija was not final and that "those who say that Serbia must accept reality are wrong," because reality was subject to change, as history had shown innumerable times.
