The president of the People’s Movement of Serbia, Miroslav Aleksic, assessed on Jan. 11 that the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Serbia, Vladimir Bilcik, acted as though he was “an advocate and lobbyist for (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic,” after Bilcik stated that one should not expect an international investigation of Serbia’s elections and that it was up to Serbia’s institutions to remedy the possible irregularities.

Aleksic told TV N1 that it was “sad to listen to Bilcik” not insisting on European values and principles, transparency and human rights.

“For a while now, he has been acting like a paid advocate and lobbyist for Aleksandar Vucic. It seems like the man has been paid for this nice support to the regime, considering that it was him who has moderated the inter-party dialogue when the elections were boycotted in 2020. He then assured us that everything would be normalized and, four years later, he is saying almost the same things,” Aleksic stated.

In his words, the issue at hand was “the European envoy’s hypocritical policy,” because of which the European Union has to respond.
