Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade on Jan. 20 that the purpose of the military arming itself was to "preserve peace," not a sign "that we are going to hand something over to someone," and that Serbia would remain on its path to the European Union.
Speaking at Serbia Palace, Vucic presented a plan called, A Leap into the Future - Serbia Expo 2027. "With this geopolitical situation, the priority is to preserve peace," he said, adding that "if anyone thinks that we are going to turn something over to someone, no, we won't. We will keep our country safe, we will protect the Constitution," Vucic said.
"Serbia must send a clear message that it is continuing on its European path and pick up the pace through reforms, while keeping its traditional friends, freedom and independence," Vucic further said. He announced "a big meeting in the military" on Jan. 30 and a presentation of what will be done for the military and security agencies in February.
