Zdravko Ponos (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)

Zdravko Ponos, president of the Serbia Center party, said on July 2 that the state of affairs in Serbia could be described as an undeclared state of emergency.

"Nothing is normal. One example is how the repeat voting was conducted in Kosjeric -- with pressure and threats to discourage people from turning out and make them vote the way they are instructed," Ponos told N1 TV.

"It has proven true that elections organized by [Serbian President Aleksandar] Vucic can only be won by him. That is why the fight for election conditions is important too, that is why the composition of the [Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media] is important too, since patience was lacking to persevere in the demand for an interim government," the party quoted Ponos as saying. He warned that it was "not enough to get swept up in the mass protests of students and citizens and the positive atmosphere and get carried away with the emotion that we will beat those who pay EUR1,000 to have someone not turn out."
