The former premier of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fadil Novalic (Party of Democratic Action), failed to report to the state prison in Vojkovici, East Sarajevo, on March 6, where he is to serve a four-year sentence.

Novalic has petitioned the Justice Ministry of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a pardon, which the Pardoning Committee will consider and send an opinion to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is to make the final decision. Novalic has been sentenced to four years in prison for abuse of office in the case of procurement of ventilators during the pandemic.

Besides Novalic, also convicted in the “Ventilators” case are the former director of the Civil Defense Department of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fahrudin Solak, to six years, and Fikret Hodzic, the director of the Srebrna Malina company through which the ventilators were purchased, to five years in prison. They have abused the public procurement system and bought malfunctioning ventilators in China, thus damaging the budget by more than 5.3 million euros.
