Scheduling repeat voting in Belgrade for June 2 would be meaningful and would represent a step in the right direction only if the ruling majority realized that elections had to be fair and started, in collaboration with opposition representatives, working on improvements to electoral conditions, New Democratic Party of Serbia leader Milos Jovanovic said on March 11.
In a written statement, Jovanovic said that it was crucial to prevent abuses of the right of residence and ensure fair media coverage of all parties.
“Otherwise, elections, whenever held, will be pointless,” Jovanovic noted.
He called on the ruling coalition led by the Serbian Progressive Party “to come to their senses and to, in cooperation with the opposition, start working on fundamental improvements to electoral conditions.”
