Professor of psychology at the Belgrade School of Philosophy Oliver Toskovic has said that the Serbian Progressive Party’s greatest success has been to convince people that they are a nationalistic party, despite selling the country, indebting it and surrendering sovereignty over territory that it claims is Serbian.
“This is why they have been hurt by the possible unification of the Right. The Progressive’s camp includes former Radicals, Democrats and pro-European and pro-Russian politicians who are tied together by a monetary ideology. It is hard then to say what they are, while the effects of populism are far-reaching,” Toskovic told the first edition of the Radar weekly.
Speaking on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s rule, Toskovic said that “when a system is created that stimulates impertinence, the person who has the least scruples will be at the top.” Commenting on the creation of a Movement for the People and State, Toskovic said that it was unusual for a ruling party in its prime to create another organization.
Toskovic said that he could imagine Vucic as the president of the movement and Serbia “spitting on the previous, Progressive government as treacherous tomorrow.”
