The Network of Academic Solidarity and Engagement (MASA) condemned on March 20 threats against a journalist and an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, Dinko Gruhonjic.
The organization said in a release that an organized campaign had been launched against their peer, Gruhonjic, based on "manipulated fragments" of a public event, and tendentious interpretations thereof.
The MASA has also expressed peer solidarity, warning that various forms of pressure, public denunciations, media and social media spins have been used to "intimidate the public, restrain the integrity of critical voices in the academic community, threatening the personal safety of its members."
A manipulated version of Gruhonjic's speech from last year's "Rebedu" festival, circulating on social media lately, together with an incendiary comment, has been picked up by affiliated portals as well. Before the attack against Gruhonjic, pro-government media had launched a campaign against the president of the Independent Journalists' Society of Vojvodina, Ana Lalic, in response to her statements at this year's "Rebedu" festival in Dubrovnik, resulting in thousands of threats she received, some to her life.
