International Association of Scientists, Including Nobel Laureates, Supports Gruhonjic

The International Committee of Concerned Scientists (CCS), some of whom are Nobel laureates, has sent an open letter to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic demanding from him a clear statement that he does not support the statements threatening the life of Professor Dinko Gruhonjic, teaching at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, as well as false evidence against him.

In the letter, which the authors underlined has been sent to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken as well, the scientists said they were aware of organized threats and general harassment against Professor Gruhonjic. "In addition to being a lecturer, Gruhonjic is a journalist and the author of three books. One of his books is a collection of columns criticizing the nationalist celebration of war criminals. These columns have also been targeted by pro-government tabloids," the Committee wrote in the open letter to Vucic.

The authors reminded of a recent manipulated video, released to create the impression that Gruhonjic identified with a well-known war criminal, after which he received a series of threats, including graffiti at the entrance to the building where he lives with his family, saying that he will soon be killed. The Committee has cautioned that "his personal data has been disclosed, resulting in another series of death threats."

"We are deeply concerned that there is an impression of a coordinated and organized effort to silence and physically harm Professor Gruhonjić," the scientists warned in the latter.
