There is still a chance to prevent the collapse of the Serbia Against Violence coalition, with one avenue being abiding by the will of the majority, Democratic Party president Zoran Lutovac said on April 22.
Speaking for the Danas daily, Lutovac stated that his party is still considering possible alliances for the election, but that their general stance is to continue collaborating with their most recent partners “wherever possible” while also “broadening” their circle of allies.
Asked whether parties choosing to run in the local Belgrade elections, scheduled for June 2, are thereby lending legitimacy and legality to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party and President Aleksandar Vucic and paving the way for the regime to claim the elections were conducted properly since the opposition decided to participate, Lutovac stated that “no one can legitimize electoral fraud or any other fraud simply by being present.”
