The Serbian speaker, Maja Gojkovic, said after a third round of government-opposition talks on the principles of a fair vote in Serbia, mediated by the European Parliament (EP), that the next election would not take place in March, but at a later date, within the deadline provided by the Serbian constitution.
"We have agreed that the elections should not take place in March, but that President Aleksandar Vucic should act within his constitutional powers and choose the election date, within the framework provided by the constitution and the law, so as to allow for the implementation of all of the conclusions that we reached during the three rounds of talks," Gojkovic said at a press conference in Belgrade.
The Serbian speaker said one of the conclusions of the talks with a three-member EP delegation was to set up a Serbian parliamentary supervisory committee, "the first of its kind since a multi-party system was established in Serbia." The proposal will be discussed by Serbia's MPs at the next session.
Gojkovic said that an agreement was also made to elect five new members to the Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (REM), under a three-plus-two rule.
