The director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djuric, on Feb. 20 congratulated U.S. diplomat Richard Grenell on his appointment as Acting Director of National Intelligence and wished him luck.
"This appointment is an important step in Ambassador's fruitful carrier (sic) and reaffirms him as a patriot of his country and a professional. Good luck!" tweeted Djuric.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci also welcomed Grenell's appointment on Feb. 20. "A great pick by Donald Trump to appoint Richard Grenell as acting Director of National Intelligence. Ambassador Grenell has done a terrific job as SE on the dialogue between Kosovo & Serbia. I wish you Rick great success in your new mission to keep USA and the world safer," Thaci posted on Twitter.
U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Grenell as acting head of National Intelligence, a service formed after the 9/11 terrorist attacks that oversees 17 civilian and military intelligence agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Grenell is the U.S. ambassador to Berlin, while in October 2019 he was appointed the U.S. president's special envoy for the peace talks between Kosovo and Serbia. The Voice of America reports that Grenell will keep his ambassadorial position, but it is unknown whether he will also stay the special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina talks.
