Environment protection is the field where Serbia is lagging behind the world the most, it was assessed on Feb. 20 during the debate "Environment Protection – Soil Water, Air", with recollection that, according to experts' assessments, it is necessary to invest around EUR8.5 billion in that field in the next 10 to 15 years.
"It is impermissible how little money Serbia designates for environment protection. There is no field where Serbia lags behind the world more than environment protection," said a member of the Fiscal Council, Vladimir Vuckovic.
In his words, investing EUR8.5 billion in ecology is possible for Serbia and its budget. "At this time, money for this purpose amounts to between 150 and 200 million euros per year, from the republic and local budgets, and this has to be increased every year, first to around 500 million per year in the next five years, and then even more," he stated.
