Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali has said that EUR100 payments to pensioners will begin on May 15, adding that after pensioners and people on welfare, the citizens who have applied for aid will start to receive the money, too.
Speaking on a Pink TV show, Mali recalled that adult citizens had until June 5 to apply for the assistance, and added that there was enough money in the budget for all payments.
"Our senior citizens had a difficult period behind them where the coronavirus is concerned and this is our way of saying thank you. Therefore, 100 euros will go into the accounts of 950,000 pensioners as early as May 15 and then we will successively pay it to everyone," said Mali.
Speaking about unemployment, citing information dated May 14, Mali said that 8,800 people had applied for unemployment benefits at the Employment Service.
"That is the only indicator that can show how much the number of the unemployed seeking aid from the government has grown," said Mali, adding that the government's financial measures had "hit the bullseye."
