Mining and Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic on July 14 said that the government had been doing everything to ensure enough gas for the upcoming winter, while at the same time, Serbia had been connecting with other countries to be able to buy gas from other suppliers.
“We have missed the opportunity to do certain things earlier, but I believe that now effort will be stepped up to ensure that we no longer depend on a single gas supplier. Nis-Dimitrovgrad gas pipeline will be completed next year, and it will be able to transport gas from other suppliers, primarily from Azerbaijan and the LNG terminal in Greece,” Mihajlovic told TV Happy.
She stressed that next year, Serbia would be able to obtain at least between 30 and 40 percent of gas from other suppliers. “We have already launched talks with the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry on storage lease next year. Until then, we also have in place an agreement with the Russian Federation, the possibility of natural gas storage in Hungary, as well as our own reserves in underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor, and we have been working to ensure enough of everything,” Mihajlovic stressed.
