President Aleksandar Vucic on April 9 said that Serbia could not manage large systems, such as the future Belgrade metro, noting that French companies could find their place in such systems.

Speaking at a France-Serbia business event, Vucic said that Serbia also needed to cooperate with companies for building landfills, waste management and other sectors, requiring large-scale projects and long-term contracts.

“We are also looking forward to artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration, and on April 8, we opened talks with EDF, the French government-owned electricity utility, on nuclear power, nuclear reactors, that is green energy, the type of energy which would create a sustainable system in Serbia. Otherwise, in 20 years, we will not have enough electricity to supply not only our industry, but our households as well,” Vucic stressed.

He noted that such projects required huge investments, but that Serbia was ready to closely cooperate with France. Speaking before French businesspeople, Vucic said that Serbia had solid public finance and macroeconomic indicators. In the past year, he added, bilateral trade between Serbia and France increased, noting that it could see a further growth. “There are 339 French companies operating in Serbia which employ a total of 11,125 people,” Vucic said.
