Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on May 20 that Serbia planned to open borders with Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania on June 1, pending a confirmation by the neighbors that their borders would be open to the citizens of Serbia as well.

"Their citizens will be allowed to cross into Serbia, but these states, too, need to confirm if the citizens of Serbia can travel there as well. They haven't responded yet," Dacic said in an interview with the Prva TV.

The minister explained that the Serbs and foreigners would be free to travel to Serbia and leave the country without quarantines, tests and permits that had been required for foreign citizens.

"Epidemiologists will decide if it's safe enough. Analyses show that the virus is getting weaker and that it might disappear soon, while newly infected persons report mild symptoms," Dacic said.

Crossing the Serbian borders without quarantine measures will be allowed as of June 15 at the border crossings with Bulgaria and Greece as well.
