The European Union's special representative in charge of normalization talks between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the EU was confident "the comprehensive normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is absolutely possible."

"It's in their best interest, as well as in the best interest of the region and the Union," Lajcak said in an interview with the Danas newspaper published on Feb. 17. The EU official also said that the EU and the United States had had "a long and productive history of close ties with the Western Balkans, as well as in the Serbia-Kosovo normalization process."

"The cooperation has produced tangible positive results over the years, and in my frequent contacts with U.S. peers a joint strategy and joint activities have been prepared. We are looking forward to restored, closer transatlantic ties," Lajcak said in the interview.

When asked when the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue could continue, given that Kosovo's previous government hadn't been installed very quickly, the EU envoy said "it's not wise to fix any date now."
